This piece reminds me of the flat expanse at Flat Tor Pan. On the first few visits, it seemed to go on forever. Now, as we've become more familiar with the moor, it is still a vast stretch, but the quaking bogs are more familiar. Still, when the north wind blows in the dark clouds, it's best to zip up and prepare for the inevitable flurries. Nimbostratus is the named assigned to the low, dark clouds that often bring rain or snow (but without the thunderclaps). They often sneak up on you when you're on the moor. Sunshine one minute, low black clouds, and then the inevitable drenching in summer, or flurries in winter.

The oak galls used to create the botanical ink were all collected on Dartmoor. The text is entirely handset from wood and metal type.
